NAID-Canada Seminar to Focus on Emerging Opportunities

NAID-Canada will hold events this fall to help service providers capitalize on the country’s new national data breach notification requirement as well as the growing regional influence of Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
On data breach notification, NAID CEO Bob Johnson expressed that the effects of the nationwide data breach notification law coming into effect November 1, 2018, are predictable.
“Historically, a breach notification requirements have proven more effective than any other sanctions in focus clients’ attention on data protection,” said Johnson. “The embarrassment and expense, as well as the fear of the unknown, are enough to cause any organization to reevaluate and increase the attention to data security.”
Johnson is quick to add that the ripple effects of GDPR, which became law on May 25, magnify the effect.
“Data controllers in Canada are also about to learn that Europe’s GDPR has global implications,” said Johnson. “As a result, Canadian service providers able to capture the momentum of the new breach notification and the GDPR are looking at an unparalleled opportunity to increase sales.”
The one-day seminar will be held on Sept. 25 in Calgary and Sept 27 in Toronto and is open to both members and non-members. Paper shredders, electronics recyclers, records storage and IT asset management service providers are encouraged to attend.
