Government Relations Committee Reconvened
May 31, 2018
In the face of the growing opportunity for the association to advance and influence data protection issues, the Board of Directors has reconvened the association’s Government Relations committee.
“Over the years, NAID has traditionally tackled government relations on an incidental basis in response to specific threats or opportunities,” said NAID President Angie Singer Keating. “And though that has had some success in the past, the association and the industry have now reached a point where more consistent activity and vigilance are required.”
To head the new committee, the board has tapped former NAID board member Mike Massaro of Iron Mountain Secure Destruction. Joining him on the committee are Aaron Blum of ERI, Brian Gubbels of DataShield, Joe Harford of Reclamere, Inc., Selin Hoboy of Stericycle/Shred-it, Steve Innerfield of Quality Shredding, and David Reagler of Arkansas Records Management.
The committee, who will meet for the first time in June, has already identified a handful of agenda items and initiatives requiring their attention, including the spread of GDPR-type regulations to the US and elsewhere, monitoring the status of S. 2179: Data Security and Breach Notification Act, and developing a responsive government relations monitoring program. The committee will also track, respond and provide updates to members on court rulings related to data protection and information governance, as well as regulatory developments affecting breach notification, background screening, access control and insurance.
