June 28, 2021 – American Baler Company, an i-SIGMA Associate member, is proud to announce improvements to their 2-Ram balers. The W721 and W828 2-Ram balers now come with a power unit and manifold block designed with off the shelf Parker Din Cartridge valves on the manifold and standard Directional Control Valves. All the pumps have their own Pressure Control Kit for all (3) stages of pump. No unloader blocks.

“Warranty claims were higher than desired with our manifold blocks and our engineering risk evaluation model led us to these cartridge valves”, says Jim Wolfe, VP Engineering & Customer Service.

“The new design is easier to build with less errors”. Mike Schwinn, Sales Manager, adds, “This change was implemented in our larger W828 series two years ago and the results have been superb, so improving the W721 was a logical next step”.

The W721 2-Ram series is American Balers most popular model. While it is a wide body baler, it is priced closer to many narrow body machines. This great price point fits many MRF applications as well as paper, plastic, and non-ferrous metals plants.

American Baler Company is an industry leader in the manufacturing of recycling balers used in distribution centers, manufacturing, and recycling centers world-wide. For more information: 800-843-7512 x 145, www.americanbaler.com

Gilmore Services, an i-SIGMA Associate member, and a data and document security company based out of Pensacola, Florida, has rebranded itself to honor the legacy of its founder, Jim Gilmore, who started the company in 1955 on the foundations of building relationships with customers, employees, and the community. As part of its rebranding efforts, Gilmore Services unveils a newer, shorter name and a new visual brand identity to better communicate its offerings.

The family-owned business started as a moving company with one employee and one truck. Today, it serves over 5000 customers across the Southeast and the United States, has grown to include a family of 60 employees. Under the direction of Ronnie Gilmore, son of Founder Jim Gilmore, offerings were expanded to include document storage, management, and shredding; hard drive destruction, residential and commercial moving and warehousing; and document scanning and imaging.

“After over 60 years in business, 2020 afforded us the opportunity to pause and reflect on our past achievements and plot out the future of our company as a team. For the first time in our company’s history, we brought together every member of our organization to help us shape this initiative,” said Lucas Gilmore, co-owner and VP of Operations and Facilities of Gilmore and grandson of founder Jim Gilmore.

“Family values is what has grown this company, and it’s also what keeps it together,” says Jacob Gilmore, co-owner and VP of Purchasing and Finance. “It’s no surprise that these values were shared by our family of employees.”

In addition to a shortened name and a new visual brand identity, the Gilmore rebranding campaign unveils the company’s renewed focus and position: people-centered security.

“Many people are unaware of all the services we provide,” said Whitney Lucas, General Manager, “and so we wanted to come up with something that reintroduced us to the marketplace as a company focused on safeguarding and securing what matters most. And that’s the personal and business interests of our customers. But, we aren’t just committed to delivering a service. We believe very much in delivering service excellence, because it’s the relationships we have with people that make the difference.”

Gilmore is independently certified by the National Association of Information Destruction (NAID) and has invested in the highest possible level of client protection, Downstream Data Coverage. Every member of the team undergoes rigorous background checks for safety and security, and are trained on HIPAA regulations and compliance for the moving, storage and destruction of sensitive and private information.

The company is most well-known for its annual community initiative, Shred-A-Thon, in which it shreds over 150,000 pounds of paper documents annually for free on-site for members of various communities across the Southeast.

“We are proud to call this community home, and honored to continue the legacy of our founder to serve the many communities beyond the Southeast,” said Lucas.

The tank operates the shredder on significantly less hydraulic oil, resulting in nearly 350 pounds less weight than the standard hydraulic tank. In addition to the weight reduction, maintenance is easier and annual oil replacement is much less expensive.

“We’ve been gratified with customer response to the PT24,” said Vecoplan paper and mobile shred sales manager, Cameron Cecil. “The cyclone hydraulic tank has proven to be a desirable feature of our truck, which already boasts industry-leading technology and performance, easy maintenance, 24-7 service, and the industry’s best warranty.”

Vecoplan’s trucks are the only shred trucks built in the U.S.A. Because of demand, the company recently expanded its manufacturing facility in North Carolina.

Cincinnati-based Document Destruction has acquired six Vecoplan PT24 mobile shred trucks over the past two years.

”There’s a lot of technology in the truck, but it’s the most driver- and user-friendly truck I’ve seen,” said owner Mike Callihan. “I appreciate that Vecoplan purposely built their truck for guys who don’t need an engineering degree to operate it.”

North Carolina-based Vecoplan, LLC, is a subsidiary of Vecoplan AG located in Germany. The company is a manufacture of industrial and mobile shredders for size reduction of virtually any material, selling into plastics, wood, biomass, paper, recycling, and waste, and waste-to-energy markets.

METUCHEN, NJ, Sep 01, 2020: Stellar announces new release of BitRaser®, an i-SIGMA Associate Member. BitRaser is a simple, powerful data erasure and diagnostic tool which enables users to permanently erase all data from storage devices. The technology guarantees permanent wiping of data from hard drives, SSD, PC, laptop, Mac, Servers & Mobile Devices to secure data privacy at the end of storage device lifecycle.

With identity theft rising as much as 33 percent over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a study by CRI, BitRaser hits the market at an opportune time.

“Often, before reselling, returning, or disposing old devices, users attempt to wipe their devices using built-in methods. However, this doesn’t completely erase all traces of data, which leaves potentially sensitive data vulnerable,” says Sunil Chandna, CEO at Stellar, “BitRaser mitigates this risk through rigorously tested failsafe media wiping and traceable reporting which completely destroys data, leaving no chance of recoverability.”

BitRaser enables the destruction of data with no physical impacts to the device by overwriting all addressable storage locations and hidden areas on the media using a binary pattern, which secures the media from any type of data leakage threat. BitRaser provides immutable audit trails through verifiable reports and certificates for failsafe regulatory compliance. The software has been rigorously tested to ensure adherence to upto 27 International industry standards, like NIST and DoD, guaranteeing the complete destruction of data.

For Enterprises, Government and Large IT Asset disposition companies, BitRaser provides a cloud console that provides flexibility to create users, manage license distribution, and maintain a central repository of all erasure reports and certificates. BitRaser also enables the configuration and automation of its software, enabling users to customize and automate their erasure process across IT assets, as per international data erasing standards.

BitRaser is available now in four variants, each tailored to a range of business and personal needs. There is a variant each for drive, server, mobile device and file erasure.

BitRaser Drive Eraser

Securely erases sensitive and confidential data across both standalone and multiple devices.

Easy-to-use cloud console that manages a range of users, generates licenses for erasure, and generates crucial tamper-free audit trails.

Compliant with global data privacy laws and regulations, including: EU, GDPR, GLB, SOX, HIPAA, ISO27001, and more.

BitRaser Drive Eraser with Admin Console

Enables bulk erasure of storage devices over a network for loose or mounted drives, desktops, laptops, and servers.

Especially suited for large enterprises, IT asset disposition companies, and service providers.

Centrally manage bulk media sanitization across computing and storage devices that mitigates the risk of data leakage while increasing scalability and reducing the total cost of ownership.

BitRaser Mobile Eraser and Diagnostics

Mobile wiping and diagnostics software for personal /enterprise use across both iOS and Android devices.

Erases and tests mobile devices to guarantee regulatory compliance, safeguard data privacy, and enables users to monetize the residual value of the device when reselling.

BitRaser File Eraser

There’s been a lot made of the fact that a considerable portion of the workforce is working from home. The conversation in the industry has focused largely on two areas: What is means now, and what it means for the future.

I’m already on record about my feeling that the vast majority of remote workers will return to their offices eventually. For those interested, that blog is available here.

As for what remote working means now, most of the discussion is about the security risks and how to best capitalize on the opportunity to serve clients when their employees remain home.

Of course, one of the main issues when considering these opportunities is knowing whether there is a problem to be solved. In that regard, over the past week I have come across two alarming indications that there is, in fact, a very big problem. And, while I want to be clear, this is anything but scientific, what I learned holds enough water that I wanted to share it.

MRFs with White Paper: The contents of curbside recycling bins end up at what is called a Municipal Recycling Facility (pronounced “merf” in the recycling world).

In the months since the lockdown began a funny thing has started to happen. While MRFs commonly end up with cardboard, newsprint and magazines, over the past few months, according to credible industry sources, these MRFs have seen a dramatic uptick in the amount of office paper they receive. The uptick is so dramatic that some are now baling white grades of paper. For anyone in data security who can add two and two, this is pretty scary.

Also, and more personally, I recently went to a large retailer to buy ink cartridges. I’ve done it before and knew they had a massive supply. The display is ten foot across and brimming with hundreds if not thousands of cartridges of every make and model. When I found it was totally empty, I was in disbelief. I immediately found an employee to ask if there was any in the back, or if I should go to another store. He said “don’t bother, with everyone working from home everyone is out of stock.”

Like many (probably), I assumed remote workers would rely solely on digital documents. The anecdotal evidence above seems to suggest a lot of those digital documents are being printed. I’ll leave it you to read into this what you will, but these two observations would seem to indicate there is, indeed, a data protection issue in the remote office environment that needs to be addressed.

August 19, 2020—Blancco Technology Group (LON: BLTG), who specializes in data erasure and mobile device diagnostics, recently launched its strategic solution for ITAD business process management.

Intelligent Business Routing (IBR) takes asset diagnostics and secure data erasure automation to the next level, harnessing Blancco-patented workflow technologies across IT asset disposal operations. The result is a robust, yet simple-to-use subscription service that dramatically decreases the time required for ITADs to move decommissioned drives and devices from receipt to resale.

“Blancco has established automated back-of-house workflows before, but for mobile device processing,” said Russ Ernst, EVP Products & Technology. “Building on that success, IBR integrates both automation and integration to increase efficiency and reduce the hands-on labor needed to process data storage devices and drives.”

Using an intuitive, drag-and-drop interface, ITAD managers can specify commands to form simple or complex workflows that direct assets through the appropriate erasure, validation and reporting stages, minimizing the need for operator involvement and accelerating processing time.

For the data erasure state alone, initial pilot results show a 10 to 20 percent time savings compared to executing data erasure without IBR.

ITADs can also automatically route devices through different processes based on almost any number of factors. This greatly accelerates the speed at which ITADs can separate marketable devices from those best reserved for reusable parts or recyclable components. Easily programmed instructions can initiate specific processes for premium products versus lesser-value items. These automated and repeatable commands eliminate the vast majority of ad hoc decisions for each project and shorten the time from receiving a device to recouping its value.

In short, Intelligent Business Routing streamlines and accelerates ITAD business processes by automating tracking, grading, sanitizing, reimaging and reporting for IT assets.

The upcoming “Blancco Bytes: Intelligent Business Routing Webinar Series” takes a deep dive into three of the core functions of IBR:

“Sail Through Sanitization Stalls with Intelligent Erasure Fallback” demonstrates how to easily customize workflows so that if a primary erasure standard doesn’t apply, a backup standard kicks in, allowing more devices to be sanitized more quickly.

“Speed Up Asset Sorting with Automated Cut-Line Decision Making” explains how IBR streamlines sorting by device type, hardware configuration, storage capacity and more to quickly categorize assets.

“Dynamically Deploy Diagnostics Tests for Maximum Resale Opportunities” focuses on how IBR directs each asset through the right diagnostics tests, based on customizable rules, to get ITADs the most value from device resale, parts reuse, or component recycling.

In March, i-SIGMA announced changes to PRISM Privacy+ Certification making it not only more affordable but also a much stronger sales tool.

March is also when COVID-19 made its international debut. You had bigger fish to fry.

More Affordable

1) Already PRISM Privacy+ Certified? RIM service providers can now renew Privacy+ Certification without the high cost of the SSAE 18 or SOC 2 audit, with an inexpensive i-SIGMA audit.

2) Already NAID AAA Certified? RIM service providers can add PRISM Privacy+ using the same NAID audit, simply by meeting 7 additional specs that it is probably already doing. When doing both audits at one time, the cost is even less.

3) Not Yet PRISM Privacy+ Certified: RIM service providers can now earn Privacy+ Certification using the i-SIGMA audit for less than $999 a year.

Stronger Sales Tool

Your customers and prospects are required to show they’ve conducted due diligence when hiring to your firm to safeguard regulated personal information. With the recent changes, PRISM Privacy+ Certification now verifies your firm’s compliance with those very specifications.

When customers and prospects learn you have done for them what they would have to otherwise do themselves, they reward you. It even builds loyalty with existing clients!

ROI and the Bottom Line

Success in business means evaluating every expenditure. You spend money to make more. It’s not the expense, it’s the return. With the price of PRISM Privacy+ Certification about the same as a set of truck tires, signing one new customer or losing one less customer means it pays for itself many times over.

Compared to Who?

The large international RIM service providers are PRISM Privacy+ Certified. So are top RIM firms in India, Saudi Arabia and South America. In fact, there are currently over 130 RIM service providers in the U.S., Canada and around the world holding the RIM services industry only dedicated operational certification. Of course, there are thousands that operate with no industry-specific certifications whatsoever.

What group does your service belong to? Maybe it’s time to switch sides. i-SIGMA has done its part. The balls in your court.

By: Tom Dumez, CHP, CSCS

With my many years of involvement with PRISM and so many relationships that have been formed over the years, I am asked by PRISM members often if they should either pursue or renew their PRISM Privacy+ Certification. The question is always the same: “Should I, or shouldn’t I? What is the benefit?” While Privacy+ hasn’t been around as long as NAID AAA Certification, because of the hard work by the dedicated members of the Privacy+ Certification Committee, I am really excited about the future of PRISM Privacy+. And it is starting to gain traction.

As a member of the PRISM Board of Directors from 2010-2012, we released the first certification program ever offered by the industry. It wasn’t without its flaws certainly, but we had to start somewhere. We had to start from scratch as this didn’t exist, and who better to incept the industry’s certification than the actual experts in the industry – the PRISM members that volunteered to be on the Board? If you remember, it was initially a self-certification/attestation and had educational sessions that you were required to attend. There have been several improvements made from that format over the years, including a time when members could use a SaaS 70 (now SSAE 18) audit instead. This helped to identify vulnerabilities, especially of I.T. systems and databases.

i-SIGMA and the Privacy+ Certification Committee have now taken this certification even further. It is now essentially modeled after NAID AAA Certification with more requirements for RIM (operations, transportation, security, employee, etc.) than PRISM Privacy+ Certification previously required. The SSAE 18 is now a voluntary component, which is helpful for a company to have. We took the highest industry standards from a very well known (by both members as well as their customers) certification program (NAID AAA Certification) and adjusted language, added necessary facility requirements, and more. The result is solid, robust, secure, and exciting.

Two of my customers (record centers) have recently told me that they have been contacted by prospects that now can only use a PRISM Privacy+ Certified vendor. To me, this means two things: 1) your customers are now searching to use PRISM Privacy+ Certified service providers either because they have heard of PRISM Privacy+ or they have searched for record storage industry certifications, and 2) you could be leaving money on the table if you aren’t considering PRISM Privacy+ Certification.

Many companies seeking document destruction services now have their own policies that require them to ONLY use a NAID AAA Certified vendor. That immediately leaves non-certified members out of RFP consideration. One benefits to those i-SIGMA members that are already NAID AAA Certified is that the same auditor can do both audits during a single visit. These certifications now both attest that your operation is performing at the highest levels of security, confidentiality, and privacy, as well as meeting the compliance obligations of several key regulations.

With the continued efforts of the i-SIGMA Board, the Privacy+ Committee, the staff, and the feedback of members, I see a really bright future for PRISM Privacy+ Certification. Soon it will be recognized at the same level as NAID AAA Certification!

So, you tell me: Should you, or shouldn’t you? I think it’s pretty obvious.
