Bob Spurgin is President of Spurgin & Associates and Spurgin Consulting Group in Irvine, California established in 1989. Specializing in the area of medical, pharmaceutical, and hazardous waste management, he is the leading nationally-recognized expert in medical waste management practices. He is a pioneer in efficient, comprehensive management practices for healthcare facilities, and over the years he has assisted over 200 hospitals and health systems in addressing waste management and environmental issues. He also has a broad client base of transporters, transfer stations, and medical waste treatment facilities throughout North America for whom he provides regulatory and operational assistance, permit filings, and technology selection. Spurgin was a member of the ad hoc working group that authored the EPA Guide for Infectious Waste Management, the contractor for the US Congressional report Finding the Rx for Managing Medical Waste, and a contributor to the Health Care Without Harm report, Medical Waste Treatment Technologies. He was also a contractor and facilitator for the EPA Interim Reports to Congress following adoption of the Medical Waste Tracking Act in 1990. Spurgin is a contributing author to three books, and editor of the book “Environmental Standards for the Healthcare Industry.” He has been an expert guest on CNN, PBS, and ABC News as well as a guest on Tom Snyder’s nationwide talk show. He has spoken at numerous national conferences concerning medical waste, pharmaceutical waste, ocean pollution, and environmental benefit programs.
